How to use the CSLB to verify if a contractor is licensed.

You are looking to hire a contractor and want to verify if they are licensed. The CSLB (Contractor State License Board) has made this very easy.

Go to cslb.ca.gov

2. Enter their license number into the “Check a license” section.

What are the risks if you hire an unlicensed contractor?

1: If they operate dishonestly about that, what else will they do dishonestly?

2: They are almost certainly not insured! If there is an accident, they sue your homeowners insurance and possibly you. You bear the full responsibility.

3. No recourse. If there is an issue with the job or they damage your property. There is no contractors bond to help you get back whole.

Easy ways to quickly verify if a contractor is licensed

1: License numbers are required on all advertising. (Business cards, car wrap or magnet, estimate form)

2: I carry my license with me and fully respect customers when they ask if I have it on me. (Examples below)
